Alva had apparently faked being paralyzed in order to assault, and take the gun off, female Sheriff Deputy Tersa Harrison and then flee. Campbell has had rapidly declining health. Going as far as to needing the use of a walker and breathing treatments. Campbell’s attorneys also claim that their client may also have lung cancer, but this has not been completely verified.
Campbell was scheduled for lethal injection on November 15, 2017 with the aid of a wedge pillow due to the point that when he laid on his back that he was unable to breathe. Prisoner officials say the pillow will be used to accommodate him with this problem. His executioners were unable to find a vein in order to inject him, so it was called off and announced by Governor John Kasich that they will attempt his lethal injection again with the new execution date of June 5, 2019.
Alva Campbell even made a request to be put to death by firing squad, which was rejected.
